How to get your child ready for school.
See a copy of our School Readiness Leaflet here.
Nursery children can wear the school uniform. Uniform can be ordered from Marks and Spencer’s online service. It is best to dress your child wearing clothes that they find easy to pull up and down when using the toilet. Children need to wear shoes that are easy to take on and off (no laces) as they might like to dress up or play in the sand. Please ensure that all of your child’s clothing is clearly labelled with their name inside.
A book bag will be really useful for their reading folder and to put letters and pieces of artwork in each day.
Also see our Uniform page.
Dressing for the weather
We value outdoor play experiences and therefore use our outdoor area in all weather. Please can you ensure your child is dressed appropriately for all types of weather.
During Winter, please try to provide wellies, gloves, a scarf, hat and suitable coat. In Summer, please try to provide your child with a sun hat. As your child will be climbing and running no open toe sandals are allowed in Nursery. We ask parents to take responsibility for applying a sunscreen to all exposed areas of children’s skin before school on hot days.
Please ensure that your child has a bag of spare clothes on their peg. This must consist of the items below. All items must be named and please keep these topped up if your child has had an accident at school.
The School Day
The children will find their name and move it onto our self-registration board. This helps children to be able to recognise their own name.
Your child will take part in some adult led carpet sessions each day, these will consist of Phonics, Maths, Show and Tell, Story Time, Singing and Music or Games.
Learning time is when children are able to learn through play exploring the different activities in the Nursery.
Free-flow learning time
Children can choose to be busy inside or outside. An adult focus activity will take place each morning and all children will be encouraged to take part for a short time. This will range from an Art, Cooking, Maths or a mark making activity, playing a game or sharing stories.
Tidy up time
Children help to tidy the Nursery. Children love to take part in tidying up. It is a great opportunity for children to develop their independence and team work skills.
When the school gate is open, parents and carers collect their children from the Nursery entrance.
Morning Session 8.45am – 11.45am
Afternoon Session 12.30pm-3.30pm
Full day Session 8.45am – 3.30pm
It is essential that your child attends school every day to help them feel settled and so they do not miss out on any learning. Children must arrive at school no later than 8.55am.
Late arrivals can be unsettling, both to your child and to the other children in the class. Please collect your child promptly at the end of each session. If you are going to be late, please contact the school, before the end of the day. All children must be brought to school and collected by an adult. Please let your class teacher or the office know if someone different will be collecting your child from school.
Please inform the school office on the first day of absence if your child is going to be absent from school.
Many of our children choose to have school dinners as it encourages them to try different food with their friends. If you wish for your child to have school dinners, you must let the office know. School dinners are £2.60 a day for Nursery children. If your child has any dietary requirements, please let us know. We are a nut free school.
Your child is able to bring in a packed lunch if you prefer. Please ensure that this contains no nuts and that it has healthy options.
Fruit and Milk
There is a snack bar open in the morning and the afternoon. The children are able to choose between water or milk and they can choose a piece of fruit that is provided. Children can help themselves to water throughout the day. Your child can bring in their own water bottle to keep in school each day.
Allergies and dietary requirements
Please ensure that you let us know if your child has any allergies or dietary requirements before your child starts Nursery.

Learning in Partnership with Parents
We will send home an overview of the learning and activities that will take place in Nursery each term. This can help give you ideas on how to carry on the learning at home with your child.
To find out more information about our curriculum click EYFS
Your child will have a Learning Journey where we put special pieces of work as well as photographs and observations on things that they have said and done at school. These will be available for you to see at parent meetings, and you can also ask to see them at any time you wish.
Parent meetings are held in the Autumn and Spring term. In the Summer Term your child will get a report sent home. A member of staff will be on the door each morning when you drop your child off, but if you would like to talk in private then you can make an appointment with your class teacher. If you are working then please feel free to email or call if you have anything that you would like to talk about.
Nursery book share
In the Autumn Term your child will be given a two reading books and a reading folder to take home. Please bring this in every Wednesday so that your child can choose new stories each week. These reading books will be ones that you can read to your child. We have parent reading morning from 8.45-9.15am every Friday morning. Come and share a story with your child!
